Effect of end groups on the raman spectra of lycopene and β-carotene under high pressure.

چکیده
The Raman spectra of all-trans-lycopene in n-hexane were measured under high pressure, and the results compared with those of β-carotene. The different pressure effects on Raman spectra are analyzed taking into account the different structures of lycopene and β-carotene molecules. It is concluded that: (a) the vibronic coupling between the S₁ and S₀ states of β-carotene is stronger than that of lycopene, (b) the diabatic frequency increment of the ν₁ mode is more susceptible to pressure than that of the ν₂ mode for lycopene, and (c) β-rings rotation can relieve the pressure effect on the C=C bond length in β-carotene. This work provides some insights for elucidating the structural and environmental effects on Raman spectra of carotenoids.

Cutaneous lycopene and beta-carotene levels measured by resonance Raman spectroscopy: high reliability and sensitivity to oral lactolycopene deprivation and supplementation.
Carotenoids, naturally occurring lipophilic micronutrients, possess an antioxidant activity associated with protection from damage induced by free radicals. The present study investigated an innovative non-invasive method to measure cutaneous levels of lycopene and beta-carotene and to monitor the distribution of orally administered lactolycopene in human skin and plasma. A double-blind placebo...
متن کاملبررسی بیان ژن های کلیدی مسیر بیوسنتز بتا کاروتن در Dunaliella salina تحت شرایط متفاوت نور و شوری
Dunaliella salina, a unicellular green microalga with ability of large quantity β-carotene accumulation, was used as a proper model for analysis of expression of the pds and lyc genes, involved in β-carotene biosynthesis pathway, under different light intensities and salinity concentrations. For this purpose, an experiment with two factors, light intensities (200 and 1000 µmol m-2s-1) and salin...
متن کاملIntensity enhancement and selective detection of proximate solvent molecules by molecular near-field effect in resonance hyper-Raman scattering.
A new molecular phenomenon associated with resonance hyper-Raman (HR) scattering in solution has been discovered. Resonance HR spectra of all-trans-beta-carotene and all-trans-lycopene in various solvents exhibited several extra bands that were not assignable to the solute but were unequivocally assigned to the solvents. Neat solvents did not show detectable HR signals under the same experiment...
متن کاملQuantification of Lycopene, β-Carotene, and Total Soluble Solids in Intact Red-Flesh Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) Using On-Line Near-Infrared Spectroscopy
A great interest has recently been focused on lycopene and β-carotene, because of their antioxidant action in the organism. Red-flesh watermelon is one of the main sources of lycopene as the most abundant carotenoid. The use of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in post-harvesting has permitted us to rapidly quantify lycopene, β-carotene, and total soluble solids (TSS) on single intact fruits. W...
متن کاملSerum β-carotene, lycopene and α-tocopherol levels of healthy people in northeast Thailand
Human serum contains many different antioxidants which may be important in the maintenance of antioxidant status. β-carotene and lycopene are carotenoids with potent antioxidant activity. Carotenoids intake probably protects against cancers and may affect the risk of several chronic conditions. α-tocopherol is well known for its function as antioxidant and in reduction of heart disease and canc...
